Solar Modules Built With Calisolar Cells Attain Industry Certification
Rigorous Testing of Open Renewables Modules Demonstrates Performance, Durability, Efficiency, Stability and Safety of Calisolar Cells

Calisolar, a vertically integrated manufacturer of solar silicon, wafers and cells, today announced that modules built using Calisolar cells have passed all tests required to be certified by the industry’s most recognized listing body, TÜV Rheinland. Rigorous tests performed on the solar modules, which were produced by European manufacturer Open Renewables, demonstrate the robustness of the technologies used by Calisolar to produce its high-performance, multicrystalline solar cells.
“TÜV Rheinland is a globally recognized listing body trusted by both solar system builders and the banks that finance large solar projects,” commented Calisolar Co-founder and Chief Development Officer Dr. Kamel Ounadjela. “Achieving industry certification is a significant milestone for Calisolar, further demonstrating the validity of our technologies for producing high-performance multicrystalline cells.”
The industry-standard 60-cell modules containing Calisolar cells successfully passed all tests required to obtain IEC 61730 and IEC 61215 certification. The certification process includes stress testing the module to demonstrate the performance, durability, efficiency, stability and safety of the modules over an extended period of time. The certified modules produce up to 250 Watts using Calisolar cells with efficiencies greater than 16 percent.
“The strenuous tests conducted by TÜV Rheinland simulate years of exposure to weather—sunlight, extreme temperatures, snow, rain and even hail—giving our customers the highest levels of confidence in any Open Renewables products made using Calisolar cells,” said Open Renewables CEO Rui Lobo. “Calisolar cells easily integrated into our existing module design without modification, and the modules obtained certification on the first pass, a remarkable demonstration of great execution by both companies.”
